Hinge Profiles and Terminology

 

CLOSED

Leaves are parallel, together and at the 0° position.

FLAT

Leaves are in line, at the 180° position.

BOTH LEAVES HALF-SWAGED

Both leaves are swaged approximately one-half the pin diameter with a minimum clearance between leaves when parallel.

ONE LEAF HALF-SWAGED

One leaf swaged one-half the pin diameter.

ONE LEAF FULL-SWAGED

One leaf swaged equal to the pin diameter and both leaves parallel when closed.

REVERSE SWAGED

One leaf swaged to simulate reverse assembly. Leaves will not close to a parallel position.

ONE LEAF FORMED UP 90 DEGREES
ONE LEAF FORMED DOWN 90 DEGREES

MULTIPLE PIN HINGES

Multiple pin hinges for double action. Available in Reverse Assembly, Swaged and formed configuations.

LENGTH
The length of the leaves measured lenthwise to the pin.

OPEN WIDTH
The overall dimension of the leaves measured across the pin.

LEAF
That portion of a hinge extending away from the knuckle at 90° to the pin.

LEAF WIDTH
The dimension from the center of the pin to the outer edge of the leaf.

KNUCKLE
The hollow circular part through wihch a pin is passed. (Also called curl.)

KNUCKLE LENGTH
The dimension of the knuckle measured parallel to the pin.

PIN
The rod running through the center of the knuckles.
